From Punishment to Public Health (P2PH) offers funding opportunities to support community-based organizations, researchers, and practitioners engaged in work aligned with our mission. These opportunities may include support for program implementation, research, training, and technical assistance (TTA).

Past Opportunities
The Kings County District Attorney’s Office is working with From Punishment to Public Health (P2PH) at John Jay College of Criminal Justice to identify a community partner that will provide on-site mental health, substance use and wrap-around services to individuals impacted by criminal justice system, with a key focus on individuals released to the community following arraignment. This “Courthouse Behavioral Health Van” (CBHV) will include clinical medical staff stationed in a van parked nearby the Brooklyn Criminal Court at 120 Schermerhorn Street, along with a team of peer specialists stationed in the courtroom, who will work to engage and build rapport with clients before they leave the courthouse.
The CBHV, which aims to increase connections to vital healthcare and support services for individuals arraigned or attending court dates in downtown Brooklyn. This project is funded by the Kings County District Attorney’s Office (KCDA), in partnership with the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) at the US Department of Justice. ELIGIBILITY
Eligible applicants are:
- Not-for-profit agencies with 501(c) (3) incorporation that have experience providing persistent outreach, case management and/or behavioral health services to persons with mental illness, substance use disorders, criminal justice involvement and/or housing insecurity.
- Behavioral health community-based applicants that are able to demonstrate a commitment to building connections with court-based alternative-to-incarceration and reentry service providers.
- Community-based Behavioral Health Independent Practice Associations (BH IPAs) and Certified Community Behavioral Health Centers (CCBHCs).
Organizations can apply as a sole applicant or as a lead entity with multiple subcontractors.

John Jay College was recently selected by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) as an Intermediary Organization, funded for the purpose of building the capacity of local community-based organizations (CBOs) that are already providing evidence-based community-based violence intervention and prevention programs (Competition ID: C-BJA-2024-00032-PROD). With this solicitation, John Jay College seeks to prevent and reduce gun violence in Central Brooklyn by engaging five (5) organizations to establish the Central Brooklyn Violence Intervention Collaborative (“the Collaborative”). These organizations will collaborate with each other and with local community safety and public health stakeholders to enhance strategic planning, professional development, partner engagement, case management and data collection activities.
ELIGIBILITY
This solicitation offers funding to expand the capacity of Community Violence Intervention (CVI) services in Central Brooklyn. As such, applicants must operate in Brooklyn and have at least one CVI program serving a neighborhood with a high risk for gun violence. Target neighborhoods and related police precincts include:
- 60th Precinct – Coney Island
- 67 – Flatbush
- 69 – Canarsie
- 70 – Flatbush, Prospect Lefferts Gardens
- 71 – Prospect Lefferts Gardens
- 73 – Brownsville, Ocean Hill
- 75 – East New York, Cypress Hill
- 77 – Crown Heights
- 79 – Bedford-Stuyvesant
- 81 – Bedford-Stuyvesant
- 88 – Fort Greene
